Your Spring Break Beauty Prep Guide

It’s time to kick that cabin fever and jet off somewhere—preferably warm—for spring break! But before you skip town this winter, here’s how to effortlessly look and feel your best on vacation.

Pre-vacation Services

Waxing

No need to waste time shaving or precious packing space on a razor. Stop in for a leg, bikini, Brazillian or underarm wax to keep you smooth while you show off some skin. Opting for the mountains instead of the beach? Don’t forget to primp your brows for all those Instagram selfies you’ll be sure to take from the slopes.

Lashes

Speaking of selfies, don’t forget to enhance your lashes with extensions for flawless photos. Cole’s Salon offers classic and volume lash sets to really make your eyes pop without having to use mascara or a lash curler. If you prefer the more natural look, a lash lift and tint might be for you. Lash lifts curl or “lift” your lashes for 6 to 8 weeks and can be colored black with a tint after a lift. This combo helps open up your eyes and make natural lashes look thicker and longer. Lash services are especially ideal for anyone going to the beach this spring break—no racoon eyes from your mascara running while swimming!

Relight Gloss Service

Prior to your vacation, you can ask for a relight gloss service to be added on to your standard hair color appointment. This is like having a top coat on your manicure—it will protect your color from UV fading, provides shine, smoothes hair, and refreshes color tone!

Post-trip Services

Malibu

Whether you’re a child or adult, anytime you are in chlorine or ocean water—a Malibu is a definite must when you get home! This service can be added onto a haircut and/or color. Malibus are also a great year-round service to rid the hair of mineral deposits or build up!

Wellaplex Treatment

If your hair is feeling dry and or damaged after vacation you can add a Wellaplex treatment onto any haircut or color service. This treatment reconstructs and strengthens the bonds in the hair while rebalancing the hair’s pH.

Extension Care

With extensions, it’s always important to wear your hair in a ponytail—not braids—when going in chlorine or the ocean. Always wash hair as soon as you can after swimming and make sure to thoroughly brush out your hair. Leave-in conditioners are also a must when in a dry climate to keep the ends of the extensions hydrated. If you have any questions about vacation extension care, please ask your stylist!

Packing List

Last but not least, don’t forget to stop in and pick up your travel size shampoos, conditioners, styling and skincare products. If you’re flying to your spring break destination, remember the 3-1-1 rule: Products must fit in 3.4 oz bottles and be placed in one clear, quart-sized plastic bag for every one passenger. Cole’s Salon carries select travel size shampoos, conditioners, and styling in Oribe and Bumble and bumble!

Post-treatment kits from IMAGE Skincare are perfect for travel and you can pick them up at your local Cole’s Salon after your next appointment. These kits include a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, SPF, mask (so refreshing after a stuffy plane ride) and serum. Don’t forget to grab a little extra SPF for the beach, too! Always remember to wet your hair with clean water before going in chlorine and/or ocean water.

A few of my must-bring-on-vacation products are:

  • Bumble and Bumble HIO Primer: UV protectant. Spray on damp hair before going outside to protect your hair from sun fading. Can also be used daily as a detangler, heat protectant up to 450 degrees, moisturizer, and to add shine to your hair.
  • Bumble and Bumble Surf Infusion: Half oil and half sea salt spray. Spray on damp, air-dried, or styled hair and scrunch in for a lived-in beachy look.
  • Oribe Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray: This humidity-control spray literally translates to “rain coat.” It is Miami-runway tested to withstand extreme humidity. It has light hold and UV protection. Spray on styled hair to keep your hair looking the way it was styled all night long!
  • Oribe Matte Waves Texture Lotion: This is a matte finish, medium hold, lotion formula to give you a beachy, lived-in look! Put in damp or my favorite on styled, loose curls for a piecey, textured, beachy waves look!

Finally, squeezing in a few appointments before heading out can really help you feel prepared for vacation. And when you feel prepared, it’s much easier to leave all the stress behind and truly enjoy your well-deserved break!
