Spring Beauty Trends, Cole’s Style

Spring is almost here! This was a pretty mild winter (remember those 60 degree days in February?), but we’re still excited for the return of warmer weather, green grass and bright, pretty blooms.

If you’re feeling inspired to try a twist on your regular day-to-day look but aren’t sure where to start, let us help you! We looked to the Spring 2017 runways for the trends that will work for our clients. Minnesota isn’t New York, but that doesn’t mean we can’t put our own stamp on these seasonal looks. Here’s how we’ll be wearing spring’s biggest beauty trends, Cole’s style.

Super-straight strands
Get out the GHD iron! A super-sleek look is classic and looks cool and chic with a pastel springtime look. (Curls can be a little too Easter Sunday sometimes!) We love the GHD line for straightening hair; prep damp hair with Bumble and bumble’s Straight Blow Dry styling balm before you blow dry and then smooth out your strands with the iron. The GHD line uses what they call tri-zone technology at a temperature of 365 degrees, which is more efficient for straightening and is safer for your hair, too. Plus, you can curl and create waves with your GHD! It’s a wise investment for styling junkies.

Roughed-up, lived-in texture
If sleek and straight isn’t your thing, designers showed lots of looks with lived-in, beachy texture on the runways too. For those who love a low-maintenance surfer-girl look, we recommend enhancing your hair’s natural texture with a texturizing spray like the classic Bumble and bumble Salt Spray or the oil-infused version for extra moisture. You can also use a cocktail of Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Nourishing Styling Crème and Be Curly Curl Enhancer to help soften frizz and enhance any natural waves you may have. Then scrunch, air-dry and go hit Lake Calhoun. (Bring a jacket though, because it’s not summer yet.)

Bold lips, with a twist
Designers were obsessed with a bright, bold lip; Jason Wu showed a classic matte red, which literally never goes out of style. If you do the basic red every day, try a twist on it by applying red to your top lip and a hot pink to your bottom. It’s subtle but still eye-catching and a fun way to wear both pink and red at the same time. (If you’re feeling adventurous, try hot pink and orange lip colors!) This might be your excuse to finally try out Oribe’s oh-so-luxe beauty line!

Thinking pink

Speaking of pink, the pretty blush hue was all over models’ faces. Designers and makeup artists couldn’t get enough of pink makeup. Using pink eyeshadow doesn’t need to make you look like your allergies are acting up; a wash of pale pink with a flick of black liner looks modern, not like you’ve got pinkeye. If you’d rather wear pink in your hair, visit with your favorite Cole’s colorist about adding a hint of rose to your color; the cotton candy color trend shows no signs of slowing down, and it’s becoming more and more acceptable to wear pastel hair color shades to work. If you’re not quite ready to wear pink shadow or dye your hair pastel, you can always add a little rose to your look via Smith & Cult polishes or with a flush of Jane Iredale blush. There’s truly a pink for everyone, so come and find your perfect shade with us.
