Our Favorite Styles, Snips and Shades for Spring

Spring is just around the corner—we can feel it! (And admit it, you’ve already seen a guy at the grocery store in shorts.) While we won’t be surprised if an April snowstorm dumps a few inches on us again this year (it’s become a tradition of sorts), we’re so excited about warmer days, more daylight and the dawn of a new season.

We’re also excited to change up our look, because spring is all about renewal, rebirth, and rejuvenation. Where better to get your spring vibes on than in a chair at Cole’s? OK, we’re biased, but if you’re ready to change it up, these hair colors, styles and looks we love will have you ready to spring forward.

Call Your Colorist

Usher in spring with a fresh new shade. This spring, we’re loving celeb faves like sandy blonde or light bronde, which Kim Kardashian rocked (as a wig) in a few recent Instagram posts. It’s a great way to lighten up without going too bright or pale, but if you’re ready for a drastic change, a rooted platinum or baby blonde is perfect for spring.

For brunettes, consider adding a warm reddish tone or opting for light caramel balayage to change things up.

Also back in a big way? Chunky highlights. We know, it sounds scary, but stay with us here! It’s more about creating contrast within your color than trying to duplicate the style you wore in the ‘00s. Highlights are done thicker to give hair extra dimension and contrast.

Chop Chop

The bob is staying strong, especially if it’s chin-length. We like them choppy and tousled, sleek and deeply parted to one side, or curled under with epic shine.

Bangs are another great way to freshen up without changing your whole style. Long, shaggy curtain bangs are our favorite because of their versatility; if you want to tuck them behind your ears, they’re long enough to do so, but if you want to rock bangs, they give you a cool ‘70s vibe.

And speaking of a ‘70s vibe … shags are IN for spring. The modern shag is all about effortless, soft texture and movement, not mullets.

If the ‘70s isn’t your thing, what about the ‘90s? “The Rachel,” Jennifer Aniston’s signature layered bob from “Friends,” is making a comeback, and to be honest, we’re kind of into its long, heavy face-framing layers. You know what they say: Everything old is new again!

All About Accessories

The Rachel isn’t the only throwback look currently enjoying a resurgence. Barrettes are back too! Yes, you read that right: It’s time to bring your ‘90s and ‘00s snap barrettes and claw clips out of the dark corners of your bathroom cabinets and start rocking them again! This spring, it’s all about hair accessories, and while you don’t need to mimic your high school hairstyles, it’s fun to throw it back with a ‘90s-style twist secured with a claw or a cheeky oversized snap barrette to pull one side of your hair back from your face. Young celebrities like Bella Hadid and Ariana Grande are all about the old school hair accessories, but they can also go elegant versus super trendy; pulling up half your hair and securing it with a pretty gold or silver clip is timeless, and pearls are having a major moment too. Accessories are a fun way to change it up without actually having to change your hair; add a few to a trendy high ponytail, keep a topknot tidy or simply pull a bit of hair away from your face and secure it with something small, sweet and sparkly. Butterfly clips optional.
