Our Favorite Beauty Looks of the Decade

Can you believe the 2010s are coming to a close? It feels like just a few months ago we were celebrating the beginning of a new decade, and now we’re getting ready to welcome 2020. Time flies when you’re having fun, right? The 2010s were packed to the brim with some fabulous (and some not-so-fab) beauty trends; the decade in general was obsessed with beauty, and the advent of Instagram meant that trends went viral fast, and were replicated from one corner of the globe to another.

In honor of this over-the-top decade, we’re rounding up our favorite looks of the 2010s.

Ombré and Balayage

While Sarah Jessica Parker rocked ombré strands in the final season of “Sex and the City,” the trend took off in the mid-00s and hit the stratosphere in the 2010s. Everyone wanted that lived-in look, from celebs like Khloe Kardashian to those of us who added sun-kissed streaks to our color in the middle of Minnesota winter. While the stark ombré look may be over for good, we’ll always love a rooty, low-maintenance look.

Bold Brows

Brows came back with a vengeance in the 2010s, making those of us who plucked ours into tiny arches in the ‘90s and ‘00s wish we’d never touched a tweezer. Even if you went a little tweezer-crazy in your teen years, you could fake big, bold brows with the many, many, MANY brow products that hit the market in the 2010s. These days, we’re seeing less “drawn on” brows and more full, feathery, natural looks, and we love it.

Pastel Hair

The 2010s were all about expressing yourself, whether you choose makeup, nail art, tattoos or hair dye. During this decade, bright, vivid and pastel hair colors made it to the mainstream; it was now OK to have pink hair at the office, and we, obviously, were all about that. We especially loved the pastel hair color trend; a hint of light pink, peach or lilac is so flattering on everyone, and is guaranteed to get you compliments.

Nail Art

The 2010s were a great time to be a nail technician. Celebs were rocking wild nail art, complete with jewels and elaborate designs, and it trickled down to the rest of us. While you may not have been going full-on Cardi B. with your mani, you probably tried the accent nail, or even popped on some press-ons for a big occasion. The nail art of the 2010s was all about having fun and not taking yourself too seriously, and we hope that attitude continues in the ‘20s.

What Does 2020 Have in Store For Us?

As we peek into a brand new era (the ’20s 2.0?), we can only guess what the future of beauty holds. We’re thinking (and hoping) for more individuality, experimentation, and adventure. Cheers to 2020, friends!
