Spring is just around the corner—can you feel it? We’ve survived (most of) the winter and its uber-chilly temps and mountains of snow; as any true Minnesotan knows, it won’t last forever. Spring always shows up and gives way to beautiful warm weather, even if we have to suffer through rain, slushy streets, and grey days to get there.
We’ve covered beauty routines for those able to hop on a plane and head toward warmer weather. But since it’s not always easy to skip town for a week or so, we wanted to bring you easy, foolproof ways to bring the beach to you!
Ride the (beach) waves
It’s basically impossible to duplicate the seaswept waves you get when frolicking in the ocean all day; there’s just something in the water that gives hair a tousled, textured quality products can’t quite achieve. However, they’re getting closer and closer to that beachy beauty, and three of our favorite salt sprays are Bumble and bumble’s classic Surf Spray, a must-have for any wavy look, Oribe’s Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray, and Aveda’s new Texture Tonic. Bumble’s formula is so popular that they even expanded the Surf line into shampoo, conditioner, and an oil-based version of the salt spray for softer, shinier waves. Aveda’s version has salt AND sugar, so it doesn’t feel crunchy or stiff.
If sprays aren’t your thing, pick up a GHD flat iron at your next appointment and let your stylist show you how to create easy, carefree waves with it; they look a bit more natural than curling iron waves and it’s super simple to do! Get your bronze on
We love IMAGE Skincare’s face and body bronzer if you want a look that screams, “I was definitely drinking pina coladas in the sun today!” We love a bit of bronzer fluffed on the cheekbones, temples, and under the jaw for a bit of contouring, then paired with a happy pink blush.
Try sun-kissed hair color
Nothing says sun-kissed like hair color that mimics the effects of a hot day on the beach. Think, a scattering of summery, lightened strands or a full head of highlights for that surfer-girl look. Balayage, ombre, sombre and babylights all help you achieve a golden mane, and your designer can help you get the exact look you’re going for.
Get a bright mani-pedi
When you go on vacation, you always stop in for a mani-pedi. What’s stopping you now? Even if your feet aren’t in flip-flops (yet), you can still treat yourself to a classic, pampering mani-pedi. Opt for a vibrant pink or orange polish to really channel the tropical vibes, but don’t blame us if you head from your appointment to Target for a pair of new sandals or two…or three…or ten. Spring IS on the way, after all!
