Fall-ing for Autumn Beauty: The Best Ways to Transition Your Look as the Seasons Change

Wasn’t summer amazing? We hope you enjoyed the best of the best, whether that was indulging in Sweet Martha’s at the State Fair or getting your fair share of cabin time—or both (you deserve it!).

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, and it’s nearly fall. Back to school has come and gone, but you may still be itching to change up your go-to beauty look. Been there, done that—in fact, it’s our favorite part of a new season! Updating your hair color, cut or even just your favorite manicure shade can bring you a new optimism and confidence as we head into winter, and who doesn’t need a boost thinking about the -20 degree days to come? (Sorry.) Here are a few of our fave ways to mix it up and “fall” into the next few months—looking and feeling amazing.

Summer probably did a number on your hair, especially if you spent time in the pool. Pop in for a Malibu treatment just like you did when you were a kid—and don’t forget to trim your ends! A conditioning treatment and a clear gloss will make your hair look and feel shiny and healthy and restore it to its natural beauty after all that sun.

Warm up your hair color.

This one is kind of a no-brainer to our expert colorists, but it’s easy to forget how simply warming up your current hair color a step or two can transform you and put you in a fall mindset. We’re loving deep, rich brunettes and spicy pumpkin reds. Blondes can take a break from the ashy, platinum looks that have been popular for awhile and cozy up to a more golden ginger tone. We’ll work with your skin tone and eye color to help find the perfect tone for you, whether that’s a russet auburn red like the autumn foliage or a chocolaty brunette. Is it just us, or are you craving a pumpkin spice latte?

Look to nature for inspiration.

It might sound cheesy, but we love to look out the window for beauty inspo come fall. The leaves are changing and showing off the most gorgeous amber, orange and red shades, which just so happen to look gorgeous on your face! Channel the ‘90s and try a brown or rust-colored lipstick, but keep the rest of your makeup glowing and dewy to stay in 2018. If 1994 wasn’t your best year, try a deep red lip instead! We actually shared our six favorite shades here, so you’ve got a head start on your options.

Say goodbye to bronzer and opt for a warm, just-in-from-apple-picking blush from Jane Iredale, and try swapping out your favorite black eyeliner for a plum or a rich brown. It’s a subtle but simple change you can test out on a Monday morning. It’s time for wine, too, especially when it comes to your mani-pedi. Is anything more chic than a deep purple on tips and toes?

Get your skin ready for winter.

The 90+ degree days are behind us and far colder days lie ahead. Start transitioning out of your summer skincare routine and begin using a richer moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated as the temps begin to drop. We also recommend visiting one of our pro estheticians for a facial or a series of peels to get your skin ready for a new season; you’ll feel relaxed and pampered and your skin will be glowing long past your visit thanks to a heavy dose of exfoliation and hydration. You’re saving money on waxing during the colder months, so splurge on your face! Our team will help you choose the best skincare products for your unique skin type and lifestyle so you’ll be able to keep that fresh face—all season long.

Stock up on hand and foot cream.

Cooler weather means dry skin! Start your defense now and slather on a rich hand and foot cream every night before you drift off into dreamland to protect and nourish your skin. Aveda’s Hand and Foot Relief are the gold standard for good reason—they’re luxe, natural and that cushy “just moisturized” feeling lasts all day. Fall won’t know what hit it!

Whatever your fall fancy, just remember to treat yourself—pretend it’s your new version of back-to-school shoes!
