Everything You Need to Know About Chemical Peels

Need sun damage repair or extra hydration after a long, hot summer? How about reducing fine lines and wrinkles, or clearing up those acne scars once and for all? When your skin is in serious need of some TLC, book yourself a chemical peel at Cole’s Salon to improve the color, clarity, tone and texture of your skin.

Before you book your peel, it’s important to know the differences between the different types of peels, which one is best for your skin, and what to expect during and after the service. Here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know about chemical peels and how to find out which one is right for you.

First, what is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels help your skin do what it naturally does better. As you age, your skin cannot renew itself as well as it did before. Peels remove the top layer of damaged skin to promote the growth of new, healthy skin, which aids in increased collagen production and improves the efficacy of your current skincare routine. Beyond that, chemical peels are used to address a multitude of skin concerns including hyperpigmentation, acne, and aging.

Our chemical peel service at Cole’s Salon is a treatment that includes an active resurfacing solution, leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth. Peels target fine lines and sun damage, help clarify skin and encourage cell renewal. For maximum benefit, a series of six treatments is recommended.

What are the different types of peels?

At Cole’s Salon, we offer four different peels—depending on your skin type and condition:

  • Lightening Lift Peel: Lactic acid blended with kojic acid and a cocktail of brightening agents to reduce all forms of pigmentation. This one is great for pigmentation, aging, dry/dehydrated, uneven skin tone, age spots, and redness-prone skin.
  • Wrinkle Lift Peel: Ultra-resurfacing blend of glycolic acid combined with retinol to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This is made specifically for aging skin that has wrinkles, rough complexion, uneven skin tone, or tired/dull skin.
  • Acne Lift Peel: Blend of AHA’s and BHA’s with protective agents to effectively treat all grades of acne. If you’ve got acne, oily, and/or aging skin—this one’s for you.
  • Perfection Lift Peel: This distinct blend of active exfoliants works synergistically to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines, correct uneven skin tone, smooth rough texture and reduce acne blemishes. This one is great for aging, pigmented, and acne-prone skin.

What is the process like?

The first thing that I recommend is to schedule a consultation with your esthetician to determine your concerns and discuss pre- and post-peel guidelines. Then, together, we choose the chemical peel to best meet your concerns. One week before and after the peel, guests must avoid sun exposure (indoor and outdoor) and discontinue any topical prescriptions containing retinol or Vitamin A.

What should I expect?

During the peel, you may feel a little tingling depending on the kind of peel you get—but nothing painful or irritating! Guests are also given a post-treatment kit with instructions. Slight redness or swelling might occur immediately after the peel, and you may experience some visual flaking or shedding of the skin approximately two to four days post peel.

You can also schedule your additional peels; for best results, a series of six to eight peels at two- to four-week intervals is suggested.

What Can I Do to Boost Results?

A series of chemical peels at two-week intervals can give your skin a radiant complexion.

Your Cole’s Salon esthetician will outline a program that best suits your needs. Together with a home skincare regimen and daily dietary supplements, you’ll experience “Age Later” results.
