8 Face Masques and Serums to Pamper, Protect and Perfect Your Skin

It’s a question I get asked often: “Should I include masques and serums in my regular skincare lineup?”

My answer as an esthetician is YES—100% absolutely, positively, yes. Masques and serums, in my opinion, often get overlooked. While they might seem like a tedious, unnecessary task to some, they are actually a vital part of a skincare regimen! Keep reading to learn why I recommend masques and serums, how to determine which product is right for you, and my personal go-to skincare regime.

Why You Should Add Masques and Serums

There are so many reasons! For one, masques and serums contain concentrated amounts of vitamins and nutrients that treat and deliver incredible results to your skin. And to top it off, they can essentially treat any type of skin issue that you can think of: aging skin, oily skin, dehydrated skin, problem skin, uneven skin—you name it and there’s a product for it.

Which Products You Should Use

This is all dependent on your skin type. There are four different skin types: oily, dry, combination, and normal. Your core routine (cleanser, exfoliant, and moisturizer) should always address your skin type!

Using the proper products for your skin type is so important and can prevent things such as acne, excess shininess, flakiness, redness, sensitivity, and dryness. Products such as toniques, serums, oils, masques, and eye creams allow us customize to really treat skin conditions and adapt to our skin’s ever-changing needs.

Conditions are things such as dehydration, acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and more.

My Personal Skincare Regimen

I personally have normal to oily combination skin type. Things I personally am concerned with are anti-aging, breakouts, acne scarring, and hyperpigmentation.

My core routine targets my skin type and consists of:

1. In the morning, I use Eminence Organics Mangosteen Resurfacing Cleanser with Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant three to four times per week (mangosteen is already exfoliating but since I’m so oily I need extra exfoliation!).

2. In the evening, I use the Stonecrop Cleansing Oil to take my makeup off! (Oil takes away oil so balm and oil cleansers are fantastic for us oily gals at night).

3. Eminence Organics Stone Crop Hydrating Mist. It’s great for lightweight hydration and Stonecrop is soothing and helps lighten pigmentation.

4. Also in the morning, I use Eminence Organics Citrus and Kale Potent C+E Serum layered with the Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum. Vitamin C is an awesome lightener and also helps stimulate collagen production and hyaluronic acid gives my skin extra hydration by holding 1,000 times its weight in water. In the evening, I layer the Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil over the Citrus and Kale Potent C+E for double dose of Vitamin C and some firming anti-aging action.

5. Eminence Organics Neroli Eye Serum, which is lightweight for my oily skin and instantly tightening with natural retinol alternative.

6. IMAGE Skincare Overnight Retinol Mask two to three times per week to target acne and like…everything else. Retinol just does it all.

7. Eminence Organics Bright Skin Licorice Root Exfoliating Peel Pads two to three times per week to lighten pigmentation.

8. IMAGE Skincare Purifying Probiotic Masque one to two times per week to absorb some of the excess oiliness.

Phew! That seems like a lot, I know. But with regular practice, you can have a routine that works for you and your skin. Still have questions? Let me know or come visit me in the spa—I’m happy to work through personal recommendations to get you feeling and looking your best!
