3 Tips to Make the Most Out of Your New Year’s Resolutions

With a quick Google search, you can quickly find the most common New Year’s Resolutions individuals commit to each year. You can also learn only about 8% of those who make New Year’s resolutions achieve their goals! But before you ditch the idea and skip New Year’s Resolutions this year, I challenge you to think differently about what you would like to accomplish in 2016.

At Cole’s Salon, one of the foundations we have in our culture is that learning never ends. When we continue to seek out new ideas, the passion for our career remains strong. When you put effort into learning, getting better is just part of the plan.

So when you think about some of the goals you might have for 2016, think differently about what you would like to achieve in the year ahead and how to tackle those resolutions with fresh insight.

Ask yourself these questions:

What did I learn in 2015?

Take some time this month to reflect on 2015. Many times we set and re-set the same goals because we have not taken the time to see the habit or pattern we have created in our lives that block success. Learning from our successes and our failures can give clarity to our goals for the new year. High points and low points throughout the year can give us insight to what we want to accomplish in our future.

What are my passions?

Learning at times sounds boring, right? We think of school rooms full of algebra equations or the dreaded English final that you slept through in college. But what if I told you learning is about setting a fire around your passions, your hopes and dreams. What inspires you? What molds you? Learn more about those things in 2016, create a plan to take a class, visit a museum or even find a college class to inspire you this year.

Where are my priorities?

Who is most important to you? Where do you desire to spend the majority of your time? Goals have a funny way of ending up at the low end of your to-do list. Instead of hoping to save more money, or wishing for more time to exercise in 2016 give yourself permission to give your goals priority over things that matter least because you matter most.

Goal setting is not always easy but is always rewarding if you put a plan in place that tackles each goal with new ideas, passion and time.

Good luck and cheers to a great 2016!
