The end of summer is upon us and the estheticians at Cole’s Salon are starting our conversations with clients about taking care of their skin as we head into the fall. Whether you are looking to stay on top of hydration, prep for treatments, or recover from the harsh sun, most skin requires some TLC at the end of the summer. Here are a few things you can do to refresh and reset your skin through the end of 2022!
Cloudy Days Don’t Mean That We Should Skip SPF!
We put a huge emphasis on SPF during the summer. But just because we are officially past Labor Day does not mean we don’t need our sun protection! SPF is a year-round commitment. While we may not get “burnt” in the colder months, our skin still feels those sun rays and can take on damage in the form of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. IMAGE Skincare just released their new Prevention+ Tinted SPF and Mattifying Primer to even out everyday skin, provide a canvas for makeup, and protect from the sun. So, keep wearing your sunscreen, and ask your esthetician about our new sunscreens!
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Cole’s has mentioned upping your water intake in many other blogs. This is so incredibly important. While it is easier to remember with the hot sun and sweat, your skin will thank you for staying hydrated year-round. With the change in seasons and harsher weather, it can be even more important to hydrate! Our skin is the last organ in the body to receive internal water. So, if you’re dehydrated, your skin is parched!
Perfect Your Exfoliation Routine
If you are not sunburned, don’t skip your exfoliation. This gets any dead skin out of the way and allows for products to penetrate deeper to aid your skin better. Allow your esthetician to provide the more intense exfoliation treatments and opt for a gentler product for your at-home regimen. Eminence Organic’s Stone Crop Fizzofoliant is the perfect weekly addition to exfoliate and prepare the skin to absorb product. The stone crop is a cousin of the well-known aloe vera plant and is perfect for sun-exposed (not sunburned) skin. Another great option is IMAGE Skincare’s Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Mask with both gentle exfoliation and a big boost of hydration and vitamin C.
Don’t Sleep on the Benefits of Night Cream
Talk to your esthetician about adding a richer night cream. Often, sun-exposed and damaged skin is not only dehydrated, but also deprived of nutrients. A great way to battle the aging that comes with sun-damaged skin is a nutrient-dense night cream. Eminence Organic Skin Care’s Monoi Cream for face and neck is an awesome choice for extra recovery. There is oil, anti-aging ingredients, and stem cells firm and tighten while nourishing the skin while your body sleeps and enters recovery mode!
Consider a Lightening Serum
Often skin that has thoroughly enjoyed summer arrives in September with a few more “spots” than it had in April. This is a perfect time to start a lightening serum. IMAGE Skincare’s lightening serums inhibit the cells that make melanin and the extra color we have in our skin. Adding either IMAGE’s Brightening Serum or Illuminator quiets these melanin-producing cells (called Melanocytes) and prepares the skin for professional treatments. This is particularly important if you plan to do a fall or winter peel series to “peel away” at sun damage and signs of aging!
