Learning to Innovate with Bb University

This past January, I had the opportunity to represent Cole’s Salon at a workshop at Bumble and bumble’s Bb University in New York City. The workshop consisted of two days of brainstorming, learning, sharing and forecasting the future of the salon industry.

Our group—the Salon Innovation Group—is a creative think tank comprised of some of the most innovative industry leaders. We came together to share best practices and learn from some of the best (shout out to Emma Chiu of J. Walter Thompson Worldwide, and Meeta Patel and Abhineet Sonkar of BEYONDigital). Here’s some of what we learned:

  • Constant communications: how to identify new trends and articulate them through various communications and marketing
  • Well-being: how to put healthy lifestyles at the center of your ecosystem of goods and services
  • Indulging together: the importance of mass gatherings and group events
  • Being more than a salon: blurring the borders between salon services, apparel, experiences and more
  • New locations: thinking about the appearance of salons and spas in unexpected places—from airports to mountain-tops
  • Bar culture: how quick, quality treatments can be satisfying
  • On demand: massage or blow dry in a matter of minutes
  • Loyalty: how good incentives and membership models can be effective
  • Remain neutral: remember to celebrate different hair types and tastes
  • We’re incredibly grateful to be included among the industry’s most innovative leaders, and look forward to learning with the group. And of course, we’re excited to bring what we learned back to the salon to share with our peers, and provide the best experiences possible for our clients!

    1. I would love it if Cole’s would offer incentives for remaining a loyal customer. A discount or product sample every once in a while would be nice.

I’d also like to know more about the healthy products that I could use. Having recently gone through cancer I don’t want to put toxic chemicals on my head. Is there still a way to get good color?
