Many of my clients, even those of us who are swimming pretty deep into the skincare deep end, haven’t bothered adding a toner to their skincare regimen. Unlike a powerful serum or moisturizer, the results after a month aren’t super tangible. There are no flashy before/after pictures floating around Instagram singing the praises of toner.
But skipping toner is a mistake: it’s a crucial component of a serious skincare routine! Here are four reasons why a good toner should be a critical part of any skincare routine.
Toners are skincare products that have the consistency of water. Traditionally, they were used to remove excess oil from the skin and were especially useful for people who had acne. Those products contain high concentrations of alcohol and therefore were drying. Today’s toners contain a variety of soothing, brightening, and anti-aging ingredients.
Your cleanser is only getting surface debris (double cleanse babes!). You can double cleanse and your cleanser may have ingredients to help, but you still rinse it off! It only works as long as it’s on the skin! A toner you spray and STAYS on the skin. It seeps into your pores and continues to clean! Kind of like a super-duper clean.
The pH of your skin is VITAL. Having a proper pH means that your skin is intact and ready to fight off bacteria, pollution, and free radicals. All the activities, products, and changes in our day affects our skin’s pH. Tibet’s return your skin’s pH to a normal level!
Have a mid-morning mist, have a mid-afternoon mist, and mist again after your workout! Give that skin a boost with a further cleanse and balance that pH baby! 🧴
It is SO worth it! Having a toner that is hydrating vs. cleansing is super important and gives you different options to choose from based on how your skin is feeling and what it needs! If you are feeling dry and tight but just worked out, you can reach for the more hydrating and soothing toner and still get the benefits. OR if you are breaking out and oily, grab that toner with the more astringent property!
We have so many great toners at Cole’s Salon. I love the Eminence Organics Mangosteen Revitalizing Toner—it is a great all around toner for basically every skin type. For aging/mature skin, I recommend the Eminence Neroli Age Correcting Toner, and for oily skin, I recommend the Eminence Lime Tonique. All smell amazing, and all can be thrown in the car, purse, gym bag, etc.!
