We recently had the incredible opportunity to work hands-on with an amazing texture hair artist, Juan Perez with Aveda who brought his Texture Cutting class to Cole’s! I am so excited to be a part of this amazing education.
Texture 101
Juan taught our team some haircuts geared towards textured, coily hair. We were able to observe two haircuts and do hands-on cutting practice to try out these flattering styles.
We took a deep dive into how often curly hair clients should be shampooing their hair, which is only every few weeks, whereas coily hair should only be shampooed once a month.
Juan took the time to educate us on coily hair specifically and how we need to care for it. We learned the LOC method for styling, which stands for how you apply a leave-in conditioner, oil, and then a cream product to LOC(k)-in moisture and minimize all frizz for curls. We worked on diffusing the curls to define the shape to give a long-lasting, wearable style.

Juan educated us on the innovative properties that Aveda has been implementing into their Nutriplenish lines, creating an effective and moisturizing line for every hair type. How cool is that!?
All in all, we had such a great time working with Juan—he was so patient and helpful. He really took the time to help us gain confidence and understanding when it comes to all curl types!
