Get the Celeb Looks You Love at the Salon AND at Home with These Tips and Tricks

Be honest—how many photos of your favorite celebrities’ beauty looks do you have saved on your phone or faved on Insta? It’s nothing to be ashamed of; celebs are one way trends move from the upper echelons of Hollywood to regular people who don’t have a glam squad on call 24/7, and with the prevalence of social media, we can see what they’re doing, what they’re wearing, what color their hair is and what makeup they favor every time we visit their Instagram profiles. It’s totally fine to find beauty inspiration from the celebs you follow (or the ones who make you pick up a People magazine in line at Target), and we’d love to help you emulate their beauty looks when you visit us!

Here are a few of our favorite Hollywood trends—and tips on getting the looks you love at the salon and at home.

Lived-in hair

Roots are still having a moment, though celebs have moved on from the full-on ombre look to something a bit subtler. We love adding a hint of brightness to both blondes and brunettes with ribbons of painted color applied to your mid-lengths and ends; this gives you an easy grow-out and looks like you’ve been hanging out at the beach, not sitting in the salon chair. If you want to add a root to your current color, ask your Cole’s stylist for a smudge or shadow root at you next color session. This look is so popular we can’t really think of a celebrity who ISN’T rocking roots.

Tousled texture

Over the past few years, we’ve noticed a departure from the “too perfect” looks on the red carpet. Celebrities are opting for a more natural, undone look when it comes to their hairstyles, and we love it! To get a tousled look at home, prep your damp hair with Bumble and bumble’s Don’t Blow It styling cream to reduce frizz and add texture, letting you skip the blowdryer. It comes in two varieties, one for fine hair and one for thick, so you can choose the one that best suits your hair type. Scrunch or twist your hair to give it a little shape, then let it air dry. We like to go in after hair is dry and add some bends with a flatiron or curling rod, then run our fingers through the waves to loosen them up. Voila! You’re Chrissy Teigen!

If you’re ready for a new cut, consider a long bob (aka Lob) with blunt-cut ends and don’t be afraid to say goodbye to some length! A cropped cut looks so fresh and chic in the summer, and it’s the perfect match for those tousled waves.

If you’d like to keep your length but still want to try an undone style, go for the high pony. Don’t get caught up in making it look perfect; the imperfections make the look! Sweep your hair into a pony at the crown and tie it, then gently use your fingers to rough up the hair near your temples and at the base of the pony for more texture, or pull out a few pieces to add some movement around your face. You CAN wear a ponytail to a wedding!

Dewy and doe-eyed

If you’re still swooning over Meghan Markle’s royal wedding beauty look and dying to try her fresh, pretty look for your next big event (or just to work on a regular Tuesday!), join the club!

First, make sure your skin is cleansed and moisturized, then cover any imperfections with your favorite concealer and foundation. (We love Jane Iredale’s natural makeup for looks like this.) Don’t apply too much—you want your skin to show through! Apply a subtle peachy-pink blush to the apples of your cheeks for a wedding-day glow.

When it comes to your eyes, give them some extra oomph like Meghan’s by applying a warm brown shadow to your lids, then smudging in a darker brown liner or shadow at the roots of your lashes; you can tightline with a small brush and really get in between your lashes if you want! Don’t worry about it looking too perfect; you want it to smudge and settle for a subtly smoky look as the day progresses. Add a few coats of mascara and a neutral lip (we recommend blotting on your favorite deep pink or red like a stain) and you’re good to glow!

Bronze goddess

If a J. Lo glow is more your style, add serious bronze to the above routine with an all-over bronzer, especially on the highest parts of your face (the bridge of your nose, cheekbones, temples) and swap the matte shadow for something with shimmer. We like to apply a little bit under the eyes in place of liner to really make a statement. Go wild with your luminizer or highlighter of choice, applying it in a similar manner to the bronzer and adding a bit to your Cupid’s bow to highlight your lips. Give your eyes even more definition with a dark liner and smudge it out with a shadow brush, and be sure to add lots of mascara!

Once you’re satisfied with your eye look, keep the bronze theme going on your lips. Aveda’s new Feed My Lips lipstick in Bronzed Pecan is ready and waiting to help you channel your inner pop star—and if you need a little help, so are we!
