Fun and Easy Kids Hairstyles for Back to School

Posted by: Molly Hiller

Whether we like it or not, summer is over and school is officially back in session! With three girls at home (ages 7 to 12), that can mean hectic mornings in my household. If your kids are anything like mine, they often ask at the last minute for a “special” hairdo for school. I like to have a few simple and quick go-tos ready for these moments. I’ll also share my favorite hair products to get them through the school year.

Kid-Friendly Styling Products

Bb All-Style: This product is one of my all time favorites, not just for myself but also my tween! All-Style works like a built-in dry shampoo. You put it in right before you blow dry, focusing on your hairline and roots, or wherever you tend to get greasy. This helps absorb oil and allows me or my tween (whose hair is extra oily) to go more than a day or two without having to shampoo.

Bb Surf Styling Leave In: This is a great product for anyone who wants a little extra texture in their hair. My girls all have a little wave so this product is great to put through their ends when they air dry it.

Bb Surf Spray: This product is great to spray in hair, wet or dry to add some texture. If you want more beachy-style waves, this is your gal. I love spraying this on dry hair before I style my girls’ hair. It takes the slip away so it holds the style better.

Bb Thickening Dryspun Texture Spray: I LOVE this product. It gives hair instant volume and fullness. For my girls, I use it when they want a big braid. I spray it on the hair before I braid it, to help give it a little more density.

Styles They’ll Love

Knotted Ponytail: Separate hair into 2 even sections. Cross one section over the other and pull the hair through the gap between the two sections, making a knot. Do the same thing, once more. Put pony binder in to secure and add a bow accessory.

Half-up Braids: Spray Bb Dryspun on the roots. Leave out front pieces of hair on each side and take a circle section from around the crown in your hands. Backcomb this section and smooth out to give some volume. Put it in a hair binder and don’t pull all the way through. Braid each front section and spray Bb dryspun on the braid, fanning out pieces to loosen it up and make it larger. Secure both braids together with a hair binder. Twist the braids and pull the half pony through. Use Bobby pins to secure.

Half-Up Twist: Take two sections of hair from the front side of the head. Twist them until you reach the back of the head. Repeat on the other side of the head and bind the twists together. Take the binder, twist it up and over the hair while pulling it through the gap. If you wish, do that same thing again to a second section below the first section. Braid all the hair together in the back. Add a cute bow accessory and gently fan out the braid pieces for a looser look.

I hope these products and styles alleviate some back to school stress. Cheers to a new school year!
