Ask the Beauty Expert: What Are Your Favorite Beauty Products?

The holiday season is here, and as the snow was falling the other day I was reminiscing about how Oprah always does her “Favorite Things” list and it’s always so fun to read up on what she loves. As the Cole’s resident beauty expert, I thought it would be fun to put together a short list of my favorite products we carry in the salon and why. Let’s dive in, shall we?!

Imperial Blowout Transformative Stylist Creme by Oribe

This is a styling product you put in wet hair before blow drying. I love this product for multiple reasons—it quickly became a staple for me after my first use. With this creme, you can create a full and flawless blowout that lasts for days while styling in strength, density, softness and shine. Imperial Blowout provides thermal protection and will not grip during a blowout to help prevent breakage. This product evolves through the phases: Cream to oil, which moisturizes, followed by oil to powder to provide volume and memory. Pro-tip: The powder also helps keep scalp oil away so you don’t need to reach for your dry shampoo as much. I notice a major difference on days I don’t use this in my routine!

*Side note: This product is meant to be used for a blowout. If you are going to only rough dry your hair but not style it all the way with a brush, this might not be suited for you.

Thickening Dryspun Texture Spray by Bumble and Bumble

I have fine, limp hair that lacks texture and volume. I use dryspun every time I style my hair for lift and airy texture. It’s just the right amount of grit in the places I want and need it most—it almost gives a backcombing effect. This is a dry spray meant to be used on dry hair. What I love most about it (besides the smell!) is that it doesn’t make my hair too snarly or dry-feeling like some texture sprays do. It’s just the perfect amount!

Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant by Eminence Organics

I will not live without this product! If your skin is dull, dry, flaky and in need of exfoliation, you need this! You can use alone with water or mix in with your favorite cleanser. Gentle enough to use everyday if you’d like, but I use only 3 times per week. The rice powder absorbs oil while lactic and salicylic acids remove dead skin cells. The strawberries and rhubarb infuse the skin with antioxidants. What you are left with is softened, polished, smoothed, plumped and refined skin.

I CONCEAL Foundation by IMAGE Skincare

This is a full coverage mineral foundation the blends seamlessly into your skin. It has a medium coverage, but will cover the appearance of redness, pore size and imperfections. You’ll also gain plant stem cells, antioxidants and conditioning botanicals to nourish your skin. I CONCEAL gives a natural-looking, radiant glow without looking oily. I am an oily skin type and I still love this foundation with a little mattifying powder over the top. If you are dry, however, you will love the feeling of lightweight moisture this brings you!

GreatShape Contour Kit by Jane Iredale

This is a simple contour palette that contains three different powders: Bronzer, highlighter and cheek color. All these powders are matte and blend beautifully to help sculpt, contour and highlight your face. The pigments are rich enough that you don’t need to use very much product, but I find powder to be much more user friendly than a cream. Especially if you are a beginner at contouring.

I hope you enjoyed my list!  If you have questions about these, or other products, shoot me an email or stop in our Burnsville location to speak with me! Happy Holidays!
